Chester-Hudson Quarry
This particular series is comprised of photographs taken at the former Chester-Hudson Quarry in Becket Massachusetts. The former granite quarry was in operation from the 1850’s until it closed sometime in 1960’s and just like the website says, it really does look as if the workers left for lunch one day and just never came back.
I am fascinated by the aesthetic complexity of exposed rock and feel compelled to find and capture as many unique compositions as I can. I do this by isolating different sections, zooming in and out. When I see what I’m looking for, I take the shot. I do this over and over until I have exhausted all possibilities. Sometimes I’ll go back to do it all over again under different lighting conditions. The end result are photographs that look like these beautiful abstract paintings that one can hang on their wall.
